Paris on Seine is both the capital of France and it’s biggest city. It is a huge industrial centre, one of three biggest financial centers of Europe at the same time is considered to be the fashion and art capital of the world. Several million of foreign tourists visit the capital of France every year.
Its axis goes along river Seine which runs through Paris: the right bank of Rive Droite and Rive Gauche to the left bank.
The right bank of the river Seine at the Beauborg district is dominated by modernist buildings of Forum des Halles and Pompidou Centre. These are the two hubs of Paris city life visited by millions of tourists and students. All the routes from Les Halles go to the Pompidou Centre – the avant-garde structure made of pipes, cables and wires, a home of Musee National d’art Moderne. Living in the neighboring district of Marais is very fashionable as there are many old-time cafeterias, bakeries and craftsmen workshops.
The districts situated on the left bank of the river Seine have always attracted poets, philosophers, artists and various radical thinkers. As it used to be back in the old times the streets and legendary cafeterias are crowded with Parisian bohemia.
Paris abounds with historical sights, works of art and buildings from different historical times, as well as museums, universities and international institutions.
Notre-Dame – the most famous church of the city is an example of gothic art with its stunning portals, sculptures and stain glass. One of the symbols of the city is Arc de Triomphe commemorating the army of Napoleon. The Eiffel Tower, erected in 1889 at the World Exhibition is the most important place to see. There are about 70 museums situated in Paris and the most renowned of all is the Musée de Louvre.
The legendary, peaceful Pere Lachaise cemetery where Fryderic Chopin, Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison were buried is a place to visit as well.
Regardless of you preferences – the avant-garde theatre, ballet, classic drama, opera or jazz you will definitely find something that will suit your taste in Paris.
